Excavator Buckets

Whatever the task, there is an excavator bucket for the job. What type of bucket you need depends specifically on the job in hand, and getting the right bucket is important.

There are many basic buckets on the market, but each manufacture may have their own name for them, so check out the specifications before buying to ensure that the bucket you are buying is the one that you need for the task.

Basically, the buckets fall into categories as follows:

Extreme Heavy Duty, or Rock Excavator Buckets - It is possible to buy a rock excavator bucket (also known as XHD), for most sizes of excavator. They are made to cope with high impact and abrasion, far more than a standard spec. excavator bucket would normally be able to withstand. They are especially suited for the larger excavators, as the tear out power of the machine often destroys standard buckets in the ground.

These excavator buckets are suitable for ripping up foundations, rock digging and loading concrete and rubble. These are jobs that a normal spec bucket will soon wear out or break.

Rock Excavator Buckets can include up-rated teeth, internal wear ribs, extra wear ribs on back plate, extra side cutters and wear shrouds between teeth. The features can usually be adjusted to meet your specifications.

V Ditchers - the excavator buckets are useful for the maintenance and cutting of ditches. They can usually be made to your specifications, to suit any size of machine, and accommodate any size of ditch you wish to create. The measurements will be based on three main elements. These are the top width, base width, and the depth of cut. They are available with or without teeth. Be aware however, that they are not always a good choice for using if the ground is very rocky or hard. If you are buying one of these buckets, you also need to know the soil conditions that you will be working on. For example, is the soil sandy or loose? If so, this will not bank in the same way as a heavy soil such as clay.

Riddle Excavator Buckets - these are sometimes known as Shaker buckets. They are used mostly for processing or sorting materials. They look similar to a bucket, but have slots so that earth can fall through, and you are left with the material you are moving in the bucket. Using a riddle excavator bucket means that stone, bricks, concrete or vegetation can be separated from soil. They are available as heavy duty buckets suitable for sorting rock and hard concrete. Riddle or Shaker buckets are particularly useful for landscaping, demolition and quarry work, and they are available to suit most sizes of excavator.

It is important to get the right excavator bucket for the job. Using a bucket not made to the specifications you require will effect the performance of the excavator, and in many cases lead to the bucket being broken by the force of the machine in the earth.
