The company behind JCB excavators began small, incredibly small, and has since grown to include locations all over the world. JCB excavators started out in 1945 when Joseph Cyril Bamford, known as Mr. JCB, began the company in his own garage.

The company that began with such humble roots has since grown to boast a mile of frontage on Interstate 95 in Savannah, Georgia.

It now has a 500,000-square-foot facility that cost about $62 million to create. It is considered an international leader in heavy machinery, producing a line of products that includes not only excavators, but also forklifts, dump trucks, wheel loaders and more. Despite its renowned, JCB remains a family owned operation. It is now run by Mr. JCB's son, Anthony.

Although well known for other construction equipment, JCB is a worldwide leader in excavator production. The company offers an extensive line of mini excavators and full-sized excavators, as well. Each main class has a number of individual models within. The main classes carry some standard features, designed to enhance power, safety and performance.

JCB excavators mini line is designed for high performance in tight spaces. The booms on these models can be offset to the left or right and also by rotating the upper main frame. These machines are ideal for excavations along side buildings and anywhere space is at a premium.

Each model in the mini excavator line includes its own long list of specifications. The 8027Z and 8032Z, for example, have zero tail swing without reduced performance. They have more than eight feet of dig depth and 10 feet of load over height.

They offer a variety of bucket size selection and come with Nachi drive motors. They also provide a number of safety and convenience features, as well.

The full size JCB excavators are known in the field as power horses. This line is also rather extensive. Models here include Japanese hydraulic components and engines and have large cabs to give lots of legroom and seat adjustment space. They all come with a Plexus filter system for cleaner oil. This is said to extend the hydraulic oil change time to about 500 hours.

The full size JS200 is one of the models of JCB excavators that comes with Advanced Management System controls. This feature handles all of the excavator's functions for productivity and efficiency.

The AMS can also record all key operating data and offers diagnostic information, as well. This feature offers four different work modes to help match the needs of individual job demands.
