THE JCB LOADER
|
There was a wrench that became famous by it's' name rather than its' function. The Crescent wrench became the icon of all side adjustable wrenches and rather than call it by its' functional name people called it a Crescent. Even if the wrench wasn't a Crescent name brand it became known as such if it was a side adjustable wrench. The JCB Loader has had a similar history; it is a brand of loader backhoe that has grown in popularity to become confused with as a specific type of earth moving equipment not just a brand. The loader backhoe is best equipped to excavate and backfill since it combines both pieces of equipment into one vehicle. The lower model of the JCB, the JCB CX-2 2005 model, looks similar to a small John Deere farm tractor but it has a front loader and a backhoe at the rear. The operator is protected by steel bar overhead cage against falling heavy brush, stones and the possibility of injury from the tractor rolling over. Backhoe operations are stabilized by two outrigger arms which lift the rear of the vehicle and lock the entire machine into a secure digging platform. The backhoe is designed for the express purpose of digging large holes or narrow trenches. It has a varying extension which allows it to dig rather deeply even in the smaller models. The larger four-wheel model of the JCB, the 2145 is more rugged and has four equal sized wheels. The front loader has a great deal larger capacity and the backhoe as well. One of the many milieu in which the front loader backhoe combination has found its' place is the repair of road and utility infrastructure of city and counties. I once had the misfortune of my water line bursting on the parking of my home. Water was flooding down the street and the yard in the low places was becoming a swamp. The city sent a three man team and a front loader backhoe. The skill with which the crew repaired the leak was admirable and certainly faster due to a JCB front loader backhoe. They not only dug out the water line but excavated the cement and asphalt road out to 8 feet. They discovered that the leak can washed away the base course of the roadway and had to be repaired as well. This operation took only five hours and by the weekend the concrete work was completed with the asphalt resurfacing done as well. The JCB is a mighty work horse and completes the tasks of a larger workforce. Its' use in the upkeep and maintenance of cities and counties is a great cost savings step. The JCB can be implemented with a hydraulic drill to effect pavement repairs, be used to excavate building foundations and to laterally drill for fiber optic network pipelines. It is a great force multiplier for building housing, highway construction and landscaping and brings great personnel savings. So whether you call it a JCB or a front loader backhoe this piece of equipment is the new backbone of the modern earth movers. |
